I have been black my entire life. I have also been white my entire life. Being somewhere in this grey area of race, culture, and personalities has been a struggle for me since I’ve been able to recognize what it means to be “mixed”. This clash of self makes it extremely difficult to truly label who I am. My life is not just black and white. I am multifaceted. I am a beautiful mix of all of my interests, my history, my relationships, and my quirks. This body of work is a culmination of everything that makes me, me. Through various mixed media materials, primarily acrylic, I portray abstract and non-representational depictions of the most important and defining aspects of my life. Although there are certain pieces of my puzzle that either aren't the most positive or may not seem significant to others, they all mesh together imperfectly to tell my story. This is my personal narrative. However, I hope to show other intersectional individuals that their lives are important and they are not weird or incomplete. No matter how we choose to identify ourselves, every aspect of our identities is unique, valuable, and worthy of a story to be told.
