Faculty Sponsor(s): Gautam Rao Butler UniversityPoetry has always inspired visual art and vice versa. I am combining the two to create a series focusing on growth and identity. This is an exploration of culture, personal development, and coping with family. I will be using various native Filipino and American fruits native to connect us back to cultures. How humans have treated food is the one of the most prominent differences across traditions. In Eastern cultures, food is left out on the table for two days before it can be consumed because the spirits of ancestors must have the first taste. More specifically, in the Philippines it is common for my family to leave fresh fruits on the table. In Western cultures, foods are consumed as quickly as possible to make sure it is consumed fresh. It is rarer in America to have sit-down meals with friends and family due to our fast-food, takeout culture.
