A Comparison of American and German-Speaking Countries’ Prison Systems

Using a variety of resources to develop the research, this presentation will consider the differences between American and German-Speaking Countries’ prison systems including Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. It will analyze the punishment versus rehabilitation mindsets, describe data, and discuss modern movements towards changing the systems especially in America. Drawing upon cultural, statistical, and historical evidence, the aim is to answer where the differences between the countries arise and why they occur in the first place. This presentation will be delivered in German.
