How do you learn to be a man in America? Across the globe, masculinity and manhood means many things and is not always easily defined. To make the evolution from ‘boy’ to ‘man’ evermore complex, transgender men are learning what it means to be a man often much later than their cisgender counterparts. This paper seeks to explore and document the intricacies and understanding of what it means to be a transgender man in the United States by describing the physical, mental, and social impacts of transitioning as it relates to transmasculine identities.
